I had a little “girls night out” a while ago and we went to dinner in downtown Pittsburgh and we got the most amazing “Sprouts app”. They were so good – we ordered a second dish!!!

Yes – they were smothered in butter and oil and cheese and who knows what else but OMG – I couldn’t stop eating them…and I realized there had to be a healthier alternative!

Truth me told, I had tried Bacon Brussel Spouts in the past and Brown sugar sprouts and while they were OKAY – I never made them again. Just didn’t do it for me…but this little concoction HIT THE SPOT!!!

The key is turning them frequently so you get the little crunch!

WHAT YOU NEED:
-1 lb brussle sprouts, washed and halved
-1-2TBS Balsamic Vinegar
– 3 gloves minced garlic
– 2 tsp olive oil

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

-Preheat oven to 400 F
-Line baking sheet with foil
-Combine all ingredients into ziplock bag and shake
-Bake 30-40 min, stirring frequently (every 7-10min)

Serve with some Turkey Burgers, sweet potato fries and BAM – delicious dinner!

Sneak Peek into the first week of 22 MC

Yup, 2 days in and I can honestly tell you – this program = total game changer.

For starters…I actually did the recommended FIT TEST. I have done a LOT of programs but NEVER a fit test. But here’s why…I want to be able to say – I CRUSHED MY GOALS!

I think part of it is mental. The thought of only having 22 minutes makes me push harder, jump higher and really test my own limits…as I know it will all be over 22 minutes later.

The moves are basic…yet challenging.

You can do them but you’ll be feeling it tomorrow. That I can promise you!

But again…its ONLY 22 Minutes. Seriously – YOU can do this! Heck…my 4.5 year old can do it!

The calendar alternates between cardio and resistance with bonus 10 minute ab add ons throughout the week.

Week 1 looks a little something like this:

I like the change and feel the variety will be awesome!

I love that I have been able to access everything through Beachbody On Demand – the BOD – that has allowed me to stream my workouts almost immediately after purchasing the program upon its release – but I’ll be honest…I cannot wait to get the sandbag. Then it will really feel bootcamp style!!!

I went through the nutrition guideline (with lots of fun new recipes to try) and I fall into PLAN A.

My WEEK 1 Meal plan is set and per usual Maegan Blinka style – you’ll see a lot of repeats!

22 Minute Hard Corps meal plan week 1

Our weeks are busy and our evenings are short. The last thing I want to be doing is cooking and cleaning each night.

So we do a lot of prep in advance and duplicate meals as often as it makes sense!

That’s what works for our family and luckily I have a hubby who just likes to eat…and its okay if its the same thing for lunch as we had for dinner!

PB&J Oats

With the strawberries coming around into Western PA, PB&J oats have become my staple breakfast!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1/4 cup steel cut oats, cooked according to directions
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 tsp all natural peanut butter

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

  • Cook oats according to packaged directions ( note: steel cut oats generally take longer than regular oats so plan ahead)
  • Stir in PB
  • Top with sliced berries

Vegan Chocolate No Bakes

I guess you can say I am a bit of a cookie monster!

Recently I have been trying to limit my dairy intake at the recommendation of my dermotologist so out went my favorite chocolate shakeology and cafe latte and in came Vegan Chocolate Shakeo!!!! And I will say – I am adjusting quite well!

Who says you need gluten or dairy for a good no bake cookie?!?!

I was a bit hesitant as I LOVE my Black & White no bakes but when life changes you gotta roll with the punches and I am happy to say I like these ones even better than my original!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 2 Scoops Vegan Chocolate Shakeology (regular would work fine if that’s what you have!)
  • 1 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Honey
  • 1 Cup Oats
  • 1/3 cup rice krispies
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract (or almond extract)

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

  1. Melt peanut butter and honey over a low heat
  2. Stir in the vanilla, oats and cinnamon
  3. Add Shakeology
  4. Stir in rice krispies
  5. Scoop or spoon onto wax paper, let cool and enjoy!

These freeze well or can be stored in an air tight container for up to a week!

Clean Mocha Pudding

I love my sweets but I also love eating clean, fueling my body right and feeling the effects of superfoods and clean eats in my bod!

So how do I keep that sweet tooth satisfied?

I create little combos like this one!

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1 “red” Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Scoop Cafe Latte Shakeology
  • 1 – 3 tsp All natural PB
  • 1-3 Tbsp Unsweetened Almond milk

OPTIONAL

  • Granola, Coconut flakes, chocolate chips

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Now my husband has perfected the science behind the combo…and swears you HAVE to do it in this order. I on the other hand put it all in the bowl and mix it up!

  1. Measure one red container of plain greek yogurt and empty into a bowl
  2. Add desired amount of PB (1 tsp is plenty but my husband typically does 1 TBS or 3 tsp) and stir until combined
  3. Add 1 scoop Cafe Latte Shakeology and mix well
  4. Add a few splashes of unsweetened almond milk until you reach the desired consistency
  5. Top with desired toppings or eat as is!

ENJOY!!!

21-day fix/Hammer&Chisel/Insanity Max:30  container equivalents:

2 Reds, 1 tsp (I consider the splash of almond milk a freebie!) 

If you’re looking for a smaller meal or snack – simply half the greek yogurt and/or the Shakeology amount to reduce the reds. 

My husband falls into the highest bracket and will often do 2 reds of greek yogurt with one scoop cafe latte and 3 tsp PB – no milk. The combo options are yours!

Its easy to focus on the scale but I will be the first to say if that was my main focus I would have quit a long time ago.

I challenged my body.

And we celebrated the small successes along the way!

Yes, I’ll be up front and share that GAINED 3 pounds on this program. Did I want to gain 3 pounds? Nope, not exactly. But let’s be real here…muscle is dense my friends! When you build muscle and cut the fat that number may be a bit higher!! Besides – my hubby is enjoying the 3 pound gain and solid booty and it is my role to keep him happy right?!
After some reinforcement from my hubby – I did learn to switch my focus to the other gains.
I gained stregnth, endurance, balance, discipline and 60 early morning dates with my hubby.

I have flaws. I have room for improvement but my goodness this body carried and delivered two beautiful babies.
My nutrition was far from perfect (I am such a cookie monster!!!) and I know I let my travels and other things set me back but hey – progress is progress right!!!
I am healthy and I just completed a 60 day RIGOROUS training program. I am proud!
These other gains, my friends, far outweigh the scale increase any day!
Besides, having a program to complete TOGETHER with my husband was so much fun and a huge key to my success (yes, I am calling my 3 pound weight gain a success).

Not only did I have my incredible hubby cheering me on daily but my challengers kept me in tune and in CHECK! I know I couldn’t have done it with out them all!!!
But the fitness journey has no end destination!
Its full Cruise*Countdown mode in our house as we prepare for a journey to the Caribbean on a trip we earned through Beachbody – We are not stopping here!

My head is truly spinning and I am sitting here today – after a whirlwind of a weekend – with a grateful heart that I was invited into a life-changing opportunity nearly 2 years ago!

You see 2 years ago I had a really good life.

I was a SAHM to a toddler and a newborn, I had an amazing husband, we lived in a beautiful home and I was HAPPY.

I thought I had it all but then I found that I was missing something in my life. Something bigger. Something powerful. Something that allows ME to empower, inspire, support and something that allowed me to find my PASSION.

Something that took this really good life I had and it made it GREAT!

I became a Beachbody Coach!

I had success in a challenge group, I wanted to pay it forward to help others and in time – through CONSISTENT hard work, daily dedication and discipline I grew a BUSINESS.

Now I know some people may see my daily sweaty selfies after my 5:00am workout in my basement and don’t quite get it – but I wanted to take this opportunity to share there is so much more to it!

I shared my story, my journey and brought others along for the ride. Something that I began doing out of joy provided me with an outlet to grow a very successful business. And after finishing the year in the top 0.05% of the ENTIRE network – out of 400,000K other coaches – I earned an invitation to the 2016 New Leaders Conference in Los Angeles – and away I went!

We had the opportunity to tour the Corporate Headquarters and it really helped me realize how much Team Beachbody leads from the front with integrity and class. The culture was amazing not to mention the impressive gym and unlimited shakeo bar offered to its employees! The mission to end the trend of obesity and to help others lead healthy and fulfilling lives starts at the top and I was honored to be able to see it all first hand!

Now it wasn’t ALLLLLL fun and games… we were there to learn too! To hear from some of the absolute BEST in the company and get tips and ideas and inspiration and really see the potential of this company. I am not a typical note taker but I couldn’t stop writing things down!!! I am so very blessed to come from the 2X #1 Coach in the company Melanie Mitro, and she was right there with us sharing and learning and inspiring us with ideas and in the end – just having FUN!

In addition to some pretty darn AMAZING training sessions from both top coaches in the network and the corporate team we also had a chance to get a sneak peek into Tony Horton’s upcoming program – 22 Minute HARD CORPS.

I come from a long line of military in my family and Tony’s heart and passion behind this program and his dedication to he troops is unreal. I love the convenience of my at home workouts and being able to do it all from my basement while my littles sleep but NOTHING can compare to the personal instruction of Tony Horton himself. I don’t think I have ever pushed myself SO hard! I was honored to have this experience and cannot wait to help others get started with their life style changes!!!

With the biggest snowstorm in years my flight back to the east coast got cancelled. And as bummed as I was it ended up being a blessing in disguise!

A few coaches – we didn’t really know each other – got together and we hiked up Runyon Canyon to see the Hollywood sign.

ut I have set a goal. NEXT YEAR – my team will still be represented and I will have at least 4 of my girls in LA to experience the opportunity and to be inspired just like I was. To learn from the top just like I did and to experience the full package deal and grow as LEADERS of their own teams too!

Taking the road less traveled can be scary.

I was a prior audit manager with my CPA license when I began this journey as a coach. I never imagined the possibilities of the business but once I took that LEAP I have never looked back.

When I first signed up to be a Beachbody Coach – my WHY – was because I needed the discount and I needed to save some money money money!!! And becoming a coach gave me a discount on the products I already loved and truly needed in my life to help me overcome my Chrons Disease, have more energy to be with my kids and all around be a happier, healthier person.

Then I realized that I had the power to use the products to help my close friends and family and help them improve their QUALITY of LIFE.

In time I began to realize I had something pretty darn POWERFUL at my fingertips. So I just kept sharing. With EVERYONE. EVERYWHERE I could…PASSIONATELY. And in time I created this business – working from home while still holding my title tight as a Stay At Home Mom but I was adding a new title to the mix – I was becoming a MOMpreneur!

I won’t pretend that this is a perfect fit for everyone but in my opinion, it did give me the best of both worlds!!

In less than 2 years I have been able to improve not only my own Health & Fitness – but the overall health of my husband, my parents, my inlaws, my siblings and HUNDREDS – yes literally HUNDREDS of others while simultaneously contributiing financially to our household. It started small at first with the monthly groceries…and soon I was able to cover those and my student loan payments – a few weeks later I added on my car payment and a few months later I added my mortgage as well. Its still a bit mind blowing at times – but it is reality!

The system I have created is duplicatable and while my personal success has been life changing – the coaches on my team are experiencing similar triumphs! I have been able to help other families pay for their monthly groceries – pay off their school loans – pay down and eventually OFF credit card debt  – and bring other moms HOME to be with their babies too!
2015 was our warm up – we are just get started!!!

H&C Week 6 in Review

Ok I’ll admit I am typically a morning person – I thrive on a good sweat session at 5am and most people thing I’m crazy but its what I do – and I truly do love it but I have been riding the STRUGGLE bus these last two weeks. My little guy has been sick off and on coupled with my own little battle against a little bug, on top of a busy weekend getaway to celebrate my all of my team’s accomplishments in 2015 and well, its been a slow going few weeks.

But like I always have to remind myself – slow progress forward is better than giant leaps up and bigger ones back!

We had a lot of snooze filled mornings resulting in a lot of family workout sessions!! Week 6 of this program took us nearly 2 weeks to complete I am happy to say goodbye to WEEK 6 and welcome WEEK 7 with open arms!

The new Cafe Latte flavor of Shakeology was released on January 11th and we are most definitely enjoying the change up in our house!

I shared it in my PEANUTTY CAFE LATTE recipe post last week but I am NOT a coffee girl – its green tea all the way for me – HOWEVER – this cafe latte shakeology —MUCH to my surprise – is hitting the spot.

I had several ladies sample it at my house last week and they too agree – it has just the right amount of flavor, still smooth yet different from the usual meal replacement shake!

I have another week ahead and rather than squeezing in a 3am workout on Thursday I am going to be realistic!

My ROUND 2 – RESOLUTIONS INTO RESULTS – Challenge group begins the 18th so I will capitalize on the support and accountability of the group and enjoy the preseason prep week and then be able to go all in with them upon my return!

My H&C Week 7 wraps up on Wednesday and then I fly out to LA for a Beachbody Coaching LEADERSHIP conference Thursday. I truly thought I could workout first but the more I thought about it the more I realized I needed to take care of myself too!

So I will stick to my plan the first half of the week, pack up for LA with my favorite travel snacks in tow Travel snacks - bars on the 21 day fixand enjoy the LIVE workout with Tony Horton Friday morning and spend some time with my coaching family from afar!

Its an amazing opportunity to learn from the best of the best, surround myself with other leaders, and come home with so much information to teach and share with my TEAM!!!

Its still a bit surreal that I’ll be enjoying an all expense paid trip to LA. It was a goal of mine for 2015 and its about to become a reality!!!

I started this little coaching gig as something to do in my spare time. I enjoyed helping others reach their goals, I loved that I was continuously working on myself and being able to cover my student loans and the cost of our monthly groceries really meant a lot to me all while building my empire during the little ones nap and after they went to bed!!!

Now I am teaching others how to do the same – how to get started – and how to take this passion for health and fitness and serving others and pay it forward!
